Credential types

Store a login

Use Login when the record needs service name, optional url, username, password and optional backup codes.

Create the record

  1. Open the intended folder and choose + New credential.
  2. Choose Login from Credential type.
  3. Enter a recognizable name. Enter the service identity and login fields. If storing backup codes, add them through the intake and select Use codes before submitting the whole credential.
  4. Review the storage location, description and tags. Do not place secrets in those metadata fields.
  5. Select Store credential. An intermediate Use action only accepts that field; it does not save the record.
  6. Open the saved record and check the name, type and available connection summary.

Validation messages stay with the form so you can correct the input. Switching types changes which fields are required. Recheck the selected type and location before submitting.

Retrieve or maintain it

Copy password returns the primary value through the audited lease flow. For a complete structured record, use the TypeScript client or CLI. The username and optional backup codes stay in the encrypted record. Retrieve them through an authorized client; the console Copy password action returns only the password.

Use the record’s Access tab for sharing, Activity for audit and leases, and Manage for rotation or archiving. A replacement requires the full typed record; existing secrets are not prefilled.
